Parking brake fault - Renault Megane Scenic

Having trouble with the following vehicle:

Renault Megane Scenic 2.0 Automatic - 2005

The car no longer starts, the dash lights up with an error with regards to the Parking Brake and the brake symbol illuminated plus a "beep" and unhealthy clicking noise sounds

There is a section in the handbook on emergency unlocking (due to a battery fault or system failure) but will this later need looked at by a main dealer? Or what is the procedure thereafter? I do not wish to manually do this should there be comebacks/problems later on. What kind of costs are we talking? Does anyone on here know the workings of the onboard computer and park brake?

Finally, what could have caused it...I only moved the car within the driveway (to make it easier to pack something into the boot), pressed the park brake (without really thinking..!) and then got in 2 minutes later and needless to say haven't been able to move since.

To add: I have done the trick of releasing the parking brake manually with the yellow release in the boot - but to no avail....

Check your brake lights and the switch at the pedal. With it being an auto, these need to function to release PB.
If no joy there, try disconnecting battery, taking the usual precautions. Battery must be vgc. Parking brake problems can cause other issues on the cars leccy system.
There could be a fault on the PB itself of course, like the motor or even the mounts on the motor. The cables could be seized as well.

I find that on the Scenics a low battery voltage will usuallt trigger a parking brake fault. Pulling the lever in the boot will release the parking brake but that's all. It may need connecting to a Clip or equivalent to reset the parking brake now that the lever's been pulled. A diagnostic session is probably going to be needed to get to the cause of the fault.
