Xantia air con switch

Unread post by Barry0allegro »

Does anyone know why the air con switch in my poor old xantia is so dim? You can only tell if it's on in the dark! Can the bulb be replaced or does it need a new switch? Thanks for any help

The Mk1 switches have bulbs with green plastic filters. Over time the bulbs get a little dimmer, but the filters oxidise and turn nearly black.

If you can find a mk1 at the breakers, find a switch which is not illuminated very often (e'g. the alarm defeat switch) and it will have a bulb and filter in almost new condition.

The filter and bulb are reached through the front of the switch, it is best to practice dismantling on a spare switch first.

Note the opaque white diffuser and the leds fitted to the S2 switch.

My MOD, I removed the diffuser and fitted reflective foil

Interesting. While the "on" light on my (S2) AC switch works, it's illumination doesnt...wonder if we have a dry joint in there. *adds to the "investigate on a rainy day" list*

At Xantia S2 the illumination green led's can be repleaced with some brighter..also for xantia s1 the bulb can be repleaced with a led serial with a resistance.

Well, for Xantia 1 is a bit different. When you turn on the lights the bulb is powered through the resistance and is less brighter.
I think that when you push the AC button the resistance is bypassed and the bulb is powered with full voltage ~14v and is more brighter.
You can try to get two brightness levels by powering one led through two resistance or by using two led's, one for each level of brightness.
