Xantia headlights again

Post by davewithington »

Not too long before the days grow shorter again, and this year I want to replace the headlights on my MK1 Xantia with brand new units - it all helps to light the road

I've gone as far as I can wityh the lights I have, I've tried a Morette conversion (left hand dip units never came!), and I have in Osram +1, which certainly helped, but I know that when the winter draws in I'll have trouble seeing against oncoming traffic on those Shropshire roads.

The original part numbers are 6204 L5 and 6205 L5. Anyone have a cross reference to Valeo numbers, as I'll want to buy a matching pair.

Has anyone tried HID units, or LED headlamp bulbs, or has a projector replacement unit been devised by anyone.

the part number changes since RPO 06442 to the ones you listed. Theres a difference in the glass of the lights themselves but i'm not sure if valeo changed their part numbers to match but the glass should be interchangeable if you only need to swap out the reflectors.

from what i can tell though theres not a huge amount you can do. HID's would be horrible as the lens design is all wrong

I had been working on this myself, I even have a set of main/dipping projector units ready....the big "problem" is the glass lens of the headlamp. It is exactly that, a Lens. It is this prevents the fitting of HUD and/or Projector units/bulbs. Scatter is the problem caused by the glass flutes, it needs the glass replacing or a method to "grind/polish" the flutes out.

The are in reality Two problems to over come, the glass itself as noted above and then add to that the adjustment/security of the units in the mounts.....neither are solved atm as the project is on the back burner despite assistance offered on the blowing of a clear headlamp "glass" out of plex

If you have the Morette mounting kits, you can get light units from http://ww.motors23.co.uk/si361240792993.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's a pic of my S1 Morettes which live at the back of my shed ...

Image

I bought these a good few years ago when i purchased the Activa. Maybe one day they'll finish her off just nicely. Sticky ... that link in previous post seems to point to S1 lamps not S2. I'm not sure they ever made a S2 conversion so if i ever get around to fixing up Activa no2 which is an S2 i'd need to swapover the front ends if i wanted to fit the set that i've got. I'm hoping this is a possibility?

I could print a similar casing , have to be 2 or 3 parts though.
Any chance of pictures from each angle Mike? Would help with inspiration.
Would adding DRL's ruin a Xantia? I can't decide, I like the idea of recessing the leds behind a honeycomb so they're hidden and not dazzling.
£70 for the lamps doesn't seem to bad. Its hard to tell but I guess £20 for the plastic, got to cad something first to get a volume really.

Mike, don't tell me your address :)

A second look, I think you are correct about them being for the S1.....but not at that price :)

I would love to make a soft (no damage) mold of those mike, it would make life easy regarding getting a halogen projector light unit made up to fit the S1 as well as the S2 car.....legal as well.

I would be nice to keep a clear glass cover type as well to keep the original look.

I would like to get a set-up designed that used reflectors from a car that can be obtained in a breakers yard/ebay because overly expensive after market ones or HUD would be more than some cars are worth for a set of x4 :)

Know where I can get a pair?

Thanks

Yes I have seen them on China sites, never in the flesh.

Maybe produced for another market still with a lot of cars...Iran maybe ?
