Anti pollution fault

Post by Dcourt »

Hi I have just had the engine management light come on and an anti pollution fault come up on my 307 2.0 hdi! The day before I lost power and was restricted to 3000 rpm! Could anyone advise/help me on this problem

Cheers

Yep....take it for a good run up the motorway for about 1 hour, keep it above 3k revs in 4th to get it really hot and the filters burning the soot.

Is it something to do with the fap filter?

Yes it is.....constant "town" driving is a problem as it does not allow a "regen" to take place (the cars BSI tells it when) because it never gets hot enough or the run is to short to build up the heat in the filter.....its called an Italian Tune-Up

Oh yes....there are "other" things ..... these are cars :)

but the run-out is a good start as this will check to see if all the systems are working......if not then unless you have the equipment its a garage job.

What age 307? The pre-2004 2.0 HDi 110 didn't have a FAP - later cars with the 136 BHP did. I would normally expect a 'Filter in danger of blocking' warning before the EML and limp mode came on. Did it come on when you accelerated hard, and when was the fuel filter last changed?

Otherwise you need to get it on Pug planet / diagbox to see what it's upset about. Might be someone near you with the kit: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 19&t=29178" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So it's probably either a blocked fuel filter causing low rail pressure, or a turbo boost regulation fault causing high boost pressure. Most likely the former if it's not been changed for a while.

I would still do a Fast 1/5 hour to make sure it does complete a Re-Gen....and it is "of the age" where a good code read would assist you to see where it has been throwing faults as prevention is cheaper :)

Would this problem cause some over revving when I put my foot down as it doesn't seem like a slipping clutch because pulling away is fine and don't get a clutch smell! Just happens every now and again when I put my foot down

No, the problem "pollution fault" would not cause over revving.

That will be your clutch slipping and will likely be in-need of changing/investigating, either way if its slipping it normally on it VERY LAST legs.
I refer you to this thread.....do not leave it till it goes Ping/Crunch/Grind/Pay-a-Lot
