Xantia Alloy Options?

Post by tim leech »

Just getting the Athena td ready for daily usage, cam belt and fluids all done, radio being swopped and the bodywork will start being tidied next week.

Now it wears its factory vsx alloys but they are all battered and badly kerbed, ones a bit bent as it wobbles and the tyres a mishmash of 4 different types, 2 are the cheapest of the cheap, ones an original mxl! which is maybe 18 years old and the other is not so old Michelin but it's cracking badly.

A new set of tyres is £250 and another £150 to get the wheels presentable....which is more than the car cost!

There's loads of later wheels on eBay off xsaras etc which should fit plus some after market which aren't too bad! I've seen some with c4 alloys on which I think suit it well.

What's people's opinions, or does anyone have a mint set with good tyres off a activa/exclusive?

I already have a s1 with vsx alloys and the other with s2 exclusive plus my dads car with standard steels and trims so fancy something different!

Activa alloys are lovely Tim, closely followed by S1 V6 wheels although they're a ***** to keep clean...

Basically any Xantia alloy will fit any Xantia. I may (and I mean may) be able to supply you a set of S2 Exclusive alloys in due course...

Set of bargsinous after market wheels bought from eBay for silly money, people can't spell Citroen or Xsara! Hence why they went so cheaply.

They are 17" though so may divide opinion!

Some of the C5 wheels look good on a Xantia.
These were the ones I liked best when I started mucking around.
I think citroenxm has a picture of one of his Xantias on C5 wheels somewhere, my attempt at photo editing isn't great

I looked at c5 wheels and quite liked the c4 vtr 17" style (there's more than one around with them on) but they were £200 a set and needing a refurb and tyres, which is 4 times the price if the ones I've bought!!

Personally - I wouldn't fit after-market alloys. They just don't look right IMHO. They have to look 'right' on the car.
However, I would say that the newer C4, C5, DS-range of wheels do look right (depending on the state of your car) because they are used to being seen on the newer Citroens. In other words, they don't look out of place.
Check these sites for sizing matches:

http://www.wheelfitment.eu/car/Citroen/Xantia%20(1993%20-%202001" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)/
Currently... Xantia MkII 3.0 V6, C8 2.2Hdi Excl, SM 2.7 ...and waiting for some TLC a DS23 Pallas efi. Times gone by... Xantia Mk1 2.1TD, ZX 2.0 16v, BX 16v, BX 19D.

They are a bit scuffed so will get them tidied up first, plus the car is in for a full machine mop Thursday.

i've been nosing at alloys for the estate for a while Tim, really like the 'resolfen' alloys on the C4's or the older peugeot Challenger or Vortex wheels (208 gti 180 had them and later 307 cabriolets) but as you have seen, they do sit around 200 a set, which on a car that only cost 450 Years ago is a bit ott!! ;-)

Max height on the rear might foul the end of the cill... remember the wheels come forward on top setting..

the c5 15" on the v6 with 65 profile tyres did touch the arch.. slightly..

Well the aftermarket wheels are on, and they do divide opinion, one thing they do is make the car ride and drive shed loads better as the originals were bent with old hard tyres, personally I like them and I think it makes the car look a bit more aggressive.....at the Midlands rally the opinions were divided with some rather vocal comments!

They do JUST fit under the arches and don't rub or catch

I will carry on improving the dings and dents, the rusty drivers door has had a quick repair and the dent man has got most of the creases out, a rear spoiler (genuine one) will be going on in the future and possibly a badge less grille
