Windscreen scuttle trim

I noticed the other day that I had some water on the front passengers rubber mat in the Activa and suddenly remembered that Paul had pointed out to me at Ripon that the scuttle trim on the Activa was starting to come away from the windscreen.

What's the best thing to stick it back down with?

It's now back indoors so isn't getting wet but would like to sort it out ASAP with the rain we're getting up here at the moment.

I always have used black Automotive Grade RTV Silicone David.. It's like bath sealant but of a better grade to resist things it doesn't need to in a bathroom..

The trick is not to use too much and to very carefully clean to spotless the glass and trim where the bond must be good...

I used clear CT1 sealant on mine, it's still sealed after a year. The scuttle had warped so there was quite a gap to fill (7mm ish), the car is outside all the time. ( I have no connection with CT1)

I think the black RTV is as good as any. You can cut that out easy enough if need be at a later date too.

That is the critical bit! Brake cleaner is excellent for the job...

It's been indoors out of the rain for the last day or two so it doesn't get any worse. It's another job to get done tomorrow.

I'd hoped to MOT the red S2 V6 XM tomorrow however I went to move it earlier and it was moaning about an ABS fault. I gave it a once over and replaced the discs n pads on the front before giving it a once over. I put the Lexia on it and it said the front left ABS sensor was knackered. I checked it with a multimeter and sure enough it's got infinite resistance across it so that's scuppered tomorrow's plans!

Oner thing I should have said is that if you have any damp in the car as a result of the scuttle leak then do have the carpets up as the foam below can suck up an enormous amount which can't then dry or escape.

Have it all out and air/dry thoroughly before reassembling...

Not good enough David. Carpets have got to come out to dry properly.

It's not that bad David... A hour perhaps...

Seats out, disconnect handbrake cables at calipers, centre console out and carpets then just lift out.

Lift up the rubber bulkhead cover so that it can dry under there too...

I agree with Jim, on removal of dry carpets in the TCT donor car, the foam poured water out on my foot and filled my shoe.....the "Foam" is actually a bloody "Sponge", go figure !.....gj Citroen, nice material choice

I am lucky the LHD cars don't suffer this.... (little things )

As a tip, get a set of metal nozzles for pumping up beach beds....cut back the plastic nozzle until you can screw the metal one on then cable tie it tighter. You get WAY better delivery. Use this for a fine seal edge line then switch nozzles and apply a thick line inside that for the main adhesion.
Have a set of heavy weights/wedges (trial set up first with a dry run) ready to apply a constant pressure. Tape is not great except at the corners. Leave 24hrs with windscreen adhesive, adhesion primer is good practice after cleaning

Well you guys were absolutely spot on.

Due to there only being a small amount of water visible on the rubber mat I didn't think much water had made its way into the car... How wrong I was!

I left the edge of the carpet and stuck my hand under it. It was sitting in a puddle.

The front seats are now out, the centre console is out and the carpet on the passengers side is out. Thankfully, the drivers side and the rear carpets are dry.

I managed to get the centre console out by pushing hard on the footbrake and pulled the handbrake up and it came up enough to get the unit out. I then dropped the handbrake straight off and took the cable off inside the car. Thanks to Paul for this tip!

The carpet is now standing up in the garage to drip and I've got the dehumidifier in the car along with blue roll in the footwell soaking water up. I've had to stop for a bit to go out but I'll take the foam out tonight as well as its soaking too.

Going to take the opportunity whilst my drivers seat is out of the car to replace the foam on the base as I've got a brand new genuine Citroen base to go in.
