Xantia - Is 2.0 16V AL4 interchangeable with 1.8 16V AL4

Post by lancia58 »

Hi

The AL4 gearbox on my 2.0 16V make year 2000 ( RFV engine ) Xantia needs to be repaired. My mechanics found a gearbox from a wrecked Xantia 1.8 16V make year 1998 ( LFY engine ). The gearbox has been rebuild a year ago was in use for 10000 KM and right after the car wrecked. My question are these gears interchangeable ?
I looked at the Citroen service and the gearbox-Drive shafts characteristics are the same, and so is the Citroen catalog number for the 2.0 and 1.8 ( I have the VIN number of the wrecked car ). The only difference i found is the catalogue numbers of the gear ECU and that the 2.0 engine gear is marked TP 19 vs TP 17 for the 1.8 engine. I didn't switch the ECUs i.e. I am going to use the original gear ECU that comes with the 2.0 16V engine.

Anyone has an Idea if I can swap the 2.0 16V gearbox with the 1.8 16V gearbox

Thanks
Zohar

The transmissions may have different ratios to suit the characteristics of the different engines. If this is the case, then the transmission ECU needs to be changed to match the transmission, because the ECU monitors the input and output rotations of the transmission and will go into limp mode if it sees the wrong gear ratio. Of course this also requires that the engine ECU will talk to the different model of transmission ECU which is probable, but I don't know.

Hi

The AL4 from the 1.8i 16v has been mounted on my 2.0 16v Xantia and it looks good, I can not feel any change in compare to the original AL4.
