My drivers/offside/RHS front window mechanism went kaput today; went to wind down window. The window didn't move and a i heard a loud ping noise. I half expected the window to drop down into the door, but it stayed in position.
I could hear the winder motor spinning freely and after removing the door card, I could see that one of the cables had snapped.
If I buy a cable repair kit off Ebay, should I just the cables or buy a kit that includes the additional mechanism parts?
Any brands that are better than others?
Should I replace all cables while I'm at it or just stick to the original broken cable?
Your highly valued thoughts please gentlemen

I'd go for the full kit, because it is already set for installation, replacing the cables can be a bit tricky ... but if the price tag worries you, try to go for the cheapest (but acceptable) possible solution

Yes, that'd be my pick (kit) ... since the cable is not the only thing that can fail, it's better to have a bomb-proof repair, than having to remove the door card once again in a year or tow when something else fails on the mechanism ... but that's just my opinion

Yes I agree. There must be wear in all components aswell as the cables. Like you say, no point replacing one item, only to find another has caused the failure of the first.vborovic wrote:Yes, that'd be my pick (kit) ... since the cable is not the only thing that can fail, it's better to have a bomb-proof repair, than having to remove the door card once again in a year or tow when something else fails on the mechanism ... but that's just my opinion

Fitted the complete new window regulator assembly yesterday. Pretty easy to do and has made a vast difference to electric window performance.vborovic wrote:Yes, that'd be my pick (kit) ... since the cable is not the only thing that can fail, it's better to have a bomb-proof repair, than having to remove the door card once again in a year or tow when something else fails on the mechanism ... but that's just my opinion
Glad I did the complete unit and not just the cables etc

Re: More C5 Mk3 window mechanism woes.
I have had my 2009 c5 x7 for 18 months now and shortly after I got the car ( 6 months ) my front near side window went and it was the cable. The car was under warranty so had that fixed at no cost then two months later the drivers door cable went.
Now according to the citroen garage that fixed them both it is a bad design as the rain water or the water from a wash collects at the bottom pulley and slowly starts to eat away at the cable at that point.
I also have a 26 year old Mazda mx5 with 60k on and those electric windows have never failed in all that time , I know because I have the Full service history on the car.
So I would ( as I have done ) remove the door cards and get in there with some silicone grease guy's as a prevention is better than a cure.
I know I might be a bit late but : May God rest Citronut's soul.

Re: More C5 Mk3 window mechanism woes.
I had had my c5 x7 6 weeks ( 2009 model) when first my passenger window cable broke then after two months my drivers side cable broke. Poor design as the water collects at the bottom of the cable and rust sets in and the bang the window she don't move.
