Xantia Alarm Woes

Post by tim leech »

For some strange reason my 97 Athenas alarm has started going off at stupid times of the day for no apparent reason! On my earlier cars I just insert the key to disconnect the sounder under the screen but this isn't there!

At 3am in the pouring rain I had to resort to disconnecting the battery as no matter what I did it wouldn't shut off,
although it wasn't really loud! I had locked the car with the plip and set alarm and deadlocks and unlocked the same way.

Is there a fuse I can pull? I'm not bothered about having a working alarm but like a working remote!

Thanks

Try using the ultrasonic defeat button, the ultrasonic transducers wear out and trigger the alarm. If that stops the problem, then it is better to disconnect one or both ultrasonic transponders in the doors.

Also check for damp carpets under the passenger seat.

Theres a fuse for the alarm, its 13 on the series ones. Mine needed resetting as it kept going off, involved various battery disconnects and button presses. I'll try to find it.

The alarm key slot was only on early phase 1's. Doesn't even work on mine

Proably the boot sensor causing alarm to go off (common problem apparently).

If you lock the car with the key (single turn only), it refrains setting the alarm in the first place. Not ideal but a workaround until you can fix the problem.

Being a mk1, the alarm is only activated if you deadlock the doors (second button on the remote).

It is likely (as has already been mentioned) to be the ultrasonic alarm component. I had this happen on my last car, and when I got a replacement that sorted it out. Apparently you can also temporarily overcome the fault by disconnecting the sensor on the passenger door.

is possible tim that the boot sensor is causing it, the Cam section ont he boot catch itself wears down over time and the sensor doesnt Always get pushed in, thus sometimes thinking its been opened and alarm going off!
i rectified this by not locking the car! :-D

Easy way to see if its the ultrasounds is to hold the button on the dash until the led lights up then lock and alarm the car with the fob. This disables the interior sensors but not the boot/bonnet and doors
