C5 X7 2.0 HDI 2008 Confirm failed radiator cooling fan?

Post by mikevybiral »

While pursuing an aircon problem I've found the single radiator cooling fan motor seems to have failed.
Before spending £250 on a new one I'd like to confirm it is indeed unseviceable.
1. Having removed the motor, the main power terminals (the big pair) read open circuit with my ohmmeter. Does this confirm the motor is u/s?
2. What do the other terminals (small pair) do?
3. If the motor has failed, would this stop the aircon from working?
4. Can the motor be repaired? (It looks as though the lugs could be drilled out, but not easily)
5. Is there a cheaper option than £250?
6. Where can I find a circuit diagram for this, the aircon, and any other of the car's systems?
Comments welcome.
Many thanks,
Mike

How about giving this mob a call? X7 side on write off, they may still have the radiator cooling fan.

The main power terminals open mean worn brushes.
The other terminals are a rotation sensor.

I fixed my Mk I for a few weeks by tapping all around it with a hammer; that sort of reseats the brushes.
Don’t know if lack of rotation causes the aircon not to work, but that’s the only purpose that I can see for it.

The Mk I doesn’t have a sensor and I’ve bought a generic 14 inch fan from a car accessory shop as shown in this link:

Thanks for replies so far. Much appreciated.
Hills Breakers had sold the part I need. Never mind!
Since posting I've done more research using my Diagbox. It looks like the fan is supposed to be two speed.
If this is the case, how and from where is the speed controlled?
If the two smaller pins are for fan speed monitoring, then the speed control must be elsewhere?
Comments welcome.
Thanks to all,
Mike

Tried tapping, but without success.
Bought new fan assembly (from NEAT on eBay) for £250.
Aircon now works!
Thanks for help.
