XANTIA TD ACCU SPHERE CHANGE

Post by tim leech »

Hi Guys

It sounds like the accumulator sphere on the white Athena is tired as the pump cuts in and out every few seconds, I have a sphere tool and have swopped plenty of spheres over the years but as this has hydractive is there anything different to worry about?

is it just the standard BX/Xantia accu sphere and exchanged in the usual way of putting it in low, undoing the bleed screw etc.

Thanks

Yup ... simples as long as you dont undo the screw too far and lose the ball bearing.

Do you have to undo the pressure screw? Unlike in a bx it's hidden away behind many things and I just can't see the darn thing! I have the new accumulator and want to get it fitted.

If I drop the suspension and leave it overnight will that do? I've never des pressurised when changing wheel spheres just put it in low for a while.

Thanks!

Leaving it overnight, or pumping the brake 50 times should drain any pressure.

The pressure release bolt is on the regulator, the head is not flush to the regulator, and (IIRC) is 12mm. When you find it, only undo it by one revolution (if you take it out the sealing ball bearing will drop out, and drop you into a world of agro!).

Done!

Without needing to depressurise, I just left it in low overnight, my god was it tight, it's dripping though now so I will check the seal is located properly as it kept falling out! the fluid that came out had a definite orange tint to it which is concerning! So I'll do a lhm change ASAP.

I had to do mine without a wrench on the car ramps. ended up taking the airbox and pipework out and using a long chisel to get it loose. not advised but there wasn't enough room to swing a cat underneath!

as for it dripping, the seal should be pretty snug into the regulator, mine definately showed no signs of falling out. theres not a bit of crud in the gap is there?

I think the seal came out of the recess as I tightened the spheres up, I poked it back in but it doesn't appear to located properly, I will have another go later.

Been there  with a front corner sphere. The trick (Jim's?) is to stick the new seal into the groove on a new sphere with a little grease. So long as you don't use loads it won't do any harm as LHM is mineral based.

It appears the seal had fell out all together and was on the front subframe! Now put back together properly, I'm going to do a lhm change first though (although most of its on the floor!)
