bsi unit reset

Post by cassie »

Hi I was looking for some advice on resetting the bsi unit on a citroën picasso 02. I have found how to do it but all the information says you have 2 hold the power button on the key for a certain amount of time. My car key isn't remote so how do I get round this?
Many thanks in advance ☺ xx

Why would you want to do a BSI unit reset in the first place?

I took it to the garage and they said there was a fault with the bsi unit and the Internet advised to do a reset before taking it to the main dealer as this very often cures it.

Reboot actually, there is a procedure to follow, something like this:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

The instruction for holding the remote button is to resync the remote. As you don't have one, that step can be ommited.

It should have remote - likely that it has been lost or damaged by a previous owner. Early Xsara Picassos are not fully multiplexed, suspect yours isn't (does it have flat ends on the indicator / wiper stalks?). There must be some fault that led you to taking it to the garage in the first place? The BSI on these lives under the passenger side dash, and if you spill stuff on the nice flat rubber mat on the dash it can leak through onto the BSI and cause all sorts of mayhem.

Hi Richard
Thanks for your advice ☺ the faults on it are the indicator comes on as and when..The fan doesn't kick in and it keeps revving even when you haven't got your foot on the revs (it sounds like you have your foot to the floor) the garage had it to look at and said there was a fault showing on the bsi unit so I needed to take it to a main dealer so I looked on the Internet to see what it meant and loads of ppl said do a reset before you pay out as this corrects the problem 9 times out of 10.
Really don't want to pay dealer prices if it's something we can correct.

Sounds like it needs to go on a Lexia to me, those faults will not be cleared by a reset as they are most likely permanent fault records....FYI, "standard" garage code readers do not work well with PSA cars......

Where are you based as there may be a Lexia owning member nearby ?

There’s a list of Lexia owning members willing to run diagnostics for other members for a small consideration here, and a map showing their locations.
Usually contact is made via the PM system to arrange a time and any remuneration.
