You need to pull the lower trim plastic off (unhook it), you'll have 3 trox screws to unscrew, and pull out the entire dash screen element (watch out for the hazard lights cable, it is attached to the switch)

Remove the quotes ... :D ... maybe a loose connection that occurs when the heat "bends" some of the surrounding material (don't expect the screen could actually overheat) ... the challenge would be to find the location of this glitch ... I'd start with the cables and pins on them ... both ends ...

Mine does exactly the same. If you put your hand into the little storage bin on the dash it gets red hot so i suspect thats why. If i put the climate on 16 it usually gets better after about 10 minutes.

@ Saab - You have the simple orange matrix display, no navigation, right?

DIY project - 12V PC cooler fan, there are even double ones, quite silent at that, put it on the rear of the screen, and voila ... insta-cool ... maybe the screen color will change from orange to blue ... :D

It might not be a fault as such - LCDs have quite a limited operating temperature range, so it might just be doing what comes naturally if gets very hot.
