Have you looked in the handbook? They normally give dimensions/weights etc.

So far as I'm aware, if you run over 3.5t gtw regardless and you are operating for hire or reward (carriage of goods) then you must operate under EU drivers hours or domestic hours rules and so must keep a record of drivers hours is fit a tacho and apply for the relevant operators license, its never been any different.

As I passed my test after the first law came in I can not be over the weight of 3.5t under any circumstance ( which the Dvla told me today)so no need for tacho if I want to be able to pull over the 3.5t threshold I then need to do a trailer test

Yes on a B license you are limited to 3.5t gtw Max and 750kg mam trailer Max so you can drive the combination so long as you don't exceed the 3.5t gtw threshold, you may struggle to find a caravan that will be under 750kg with all the gear on board though.

Have you looked around the van for the plate displaying it's weight? It's normally located either under the bonnet or in/around the door footwells on commercial vehicles.
