Citroen C5 failure of handbrake on MOT.....

Unread post by howiedean »

Good Afternoon Gents,
Sadly the Citroen failed the MOT with 'Nearside front parking brake recording little or no effect'

I've just had a quick look and when the handbrake is applied there is less movement on the nearside. Also with the handbrake off the handbrake caliper operates on the nearside suggesting a stiff cable?

I picked up the inner cable from GFS on the way home from the MOT, it is probably that I'll need the outer tube, where is the best place to buy one of those?

Any thoughts would be gratefully received?
Howie

As a rule of thumb, ALWAYs replace both, The corrosion inside the tube will cause the cable problem again quite quickly. Ask me how I know :(

Thanks for the quick response. Where is the best place to get hold of the outer?

Dealer only I'm afraid but not terribly expensive.

Thanks for that. One last question, I've disconnected the tube and cable from both ends however does it have to be removed from the front of the car?
I'm having a bit of trouble with the wheel locking bolt at the moment therefore I'm having to work with the front wheel on.

Regards,
Howie

A tip, before removing the tube, tape some string to it. Attach that to the new tube and use that as a guide to the path you replace it into and help you pull it back thru..a helper tugging it helps.

MOT re-test pass this morning. :-D
I had to take the car to a garage to get off the locking wheel nuts, I got them to do the handbrake at the same time.
