C5 X7 DRL

Unread post by mooseshaver »

Don't use those normal little halogen bulbs you get in supermarkets.
They melt the holder and cause a smoky look to the whole headlamp.

Cheers for that. Just the sort of thing I would be tempted to do.

I believed the Internet. I ignored the one dissenting voice on FCF. I'm sorry. Forgive me.
The LEDs I bought don't fit in the holders either. Thought I bought the ones recommended on here but they too fat.
Ahh well. You live and fail to learn from your mistakes.

I have some red LED tail lights that don't fit as well....I thought I knew best as well. I am the lucky one only because I didn't toast my headlamp glass.....but I just as easily could of.

You get forgiveness from me :)

Always tempting to go for a cheaper option if your budget is tight.
Easy to criticise if you have plenty dosh. Glad you put this up mooseshaver, as it's a timely reminder that there are some things that can save a few £'s and some that can't.
Threads like this are really helpful to the forum members.

That's why I decided to give it a go with the LEDs, a large variety of models, to help others to avoid them (unless I find the decent and useable LED replacement, which I haven't up to day) ... I just hope you didn't cause too much damage to your headlamp ... depending on which side it is, I could sell you mine very soon (don't know how you adjust the beam for the UK roads though) ... :D

Been there, done that.

Luckily I found a pair of original Valeos from France under 300€.

If it is a "chemical deposit" and not a burn, you can with the use of a low set oven, remove the plastic outer clear shell and polish it up.

(The oven method IS safe BTW and does not melt plastic just softens the glue on the lens....don't use the grill & make sure you do not have exposed elements, set for LOW)

I´ve got the old lights in the shed, and I´m planning to open them one day for polishing and maybe some DRL-tuning...

C5´s lights are so big that they won´t fit my oven, though.
