Xantia Keypad

Post by rossnunn »

My dad has had a old Xantia in his garden for oooooh at lest 5 years & now is the time for it to be broken up & scrapped.
Today was the day we were going to rescue it & drive it up on his trailer.
Well that was the idea.
We dropped a battery on her & cranked & cranked & cranked before I suddenly remembered the bloody keypad (the car is packed with 'stuff')
Neither me or him can remember the code & we've tried all the usual 1234, 1111, 0000 etc but alas no joy.
If there is a way around it could someone message me as I understand it's not the most 'broadcast-able' of things.
Or does anyone know if the immobiliser kills the spark or fuel or both?
Our xantia is a 1.9 petrol so no luck to bypass the derv pump.

Thanks.

Presumably you could get the code from a Citroen dealer?

Mmm I'll try but I think the dealer will be a no-go.

Defiantly petrol. Sure it was a 1.9 unit? Maybe a 2.0? It's a 16 valver with a plastic inlet manifold??

@ rossnunn - You wrote your Xantia is a 1.9 Petrol in the first post ... there never was a 1.9 petrol on the Xantias, only Diesel and Turbo Diesels were at 1.9

Thats a petrol. Sorry no idea about your keypad though, maybe a winch would help.

Doesn't really matter what engine it is, it's the same problem - code is in the ECU, and unless you can get it read by an re-chipper or something you have no hope - it will have come as 0000 or 1111 from the dealer.

But... if you look at the keypad at an acute angle in bright light, you might be able see a build up of finger grease around the 4 keys that make up the code. This may give you a clue what the code is (phone number, birthdays etc), or reduce the number of combinations you need to try to 4^4 (256)

Is that right?
I thought they had that code in built for 'dealer mode' (for servicing etc. which I never understood, I presume it only allowed the engine to run for a short period of time?) and they had a second code that was a random number that was for the owner to use?

It's a long long time since I've read up on this though, so I may well be completely wrong! :-D

The service code is something you set and clear so you don't have to give a garage the real code. Can't remember exactly how, years since I had a keypad. I think there's an s button for it.

You can set the code to whatever you like. There is a service mode which allows you to temporarily override the immobiliser with a simple code - but IIRC it beeps at you a lot. And you need to know your code to set it. I think there was also a temp override that allowed you to override it for jumping in and out, but this (possibly) reset after you locked it. It would also have long ago re-set with the battery off on this car....

Richard. Would this temporary code be the 1111/0000 number?

There was more than one evolution of the keypad immobiliser during the mk1 production, but in any case, if the code is lost and cannot be guessed, the only solution is to swap in an ECU with a known code or get the existing ecu reprogrammed to reset or disable the code.
Not a worthwhile exercise on a car that is about to be scrapped.

This is looking like a dead duck then. Oh joy.

Does the immobiliser kill the spark or just the fueling?
