My 2001 citroen c5 2.0hdi seems to struggle when pulling my caravan the oil temp guage starts creeping up to the red, then when im not towing a few days later it flashes up anti pollution fault, then corrects it self a few days later, thought of getting it chipped for more power and torque
Is this a good idea?

Re: towing with a c5
Is this a change to what used to happen ?
Do your cooling fans come on ?
When did you last have the gearbox oil changed ?
Does the Turbo kick in about 1500rpm ?
Can you rev it over 3.5rpm and does it rev quickly ?
The car in standard form is perfect for towing, you have a problem that needs to be sorted before any rubbish "chip" is thrown onto it to screw it up more.

Re: towing with a c5
Agreed, there should be absolutely no need to chip it. I have exactly the same year car/engine and use it for towing a loaded car trailer (heavier than a caravan) and it's fine, plenty enough grunt, no problems.
You say the oil temp gets high, what does the water temp do? Is the oil level ok? (check it on the dipstick, don't just rely on the display on the dash).
High oil temp and low power could be a knackered turbo, but you would normally also be able to hear that/get a smoky exhaust etc, so low power and an emissions fault could also just be something like a stuck wastegate?
As for the fault it's showing, it would be worth plugging it into a lexia (have a look on the map to see if there's someone nearby you on the forum with one) and seeing what that can tell you.
