Xantia sinks like a stone

Post by superloopy »

Xantia TD SX 95 reg....

Hi ... this car has had the problem of the rear end dropping almost immediately after turning the engine off. ALL six of the spheres have been changed recently and still she drops down. As i understand it this is not right so what else should i be looking at as a starter? Apart from this the ride is ok but is it fixable?

Does it drop just a bit, or all the way to the bump stops?

I would think the most likely faults would be the rear suspension rams. You should check the flow rate in the LHM return lines.

Is it likely that both rams would be suspect though? How do i check flow return rate? Is there an antisink valve in the setup?

Should be anti Sink. 1995 and 6 spheres suggests so.

Yes .. it's definitley NOT a sinker that's for sure but what i meant was does it have an actual antisink valve and if so could this be the problem?

I've been out this morning and it's still doing it. I parked up and by the time i'd got to the back and opened the bootlid it was visibly going down quite quickly. I'm sure this has just started to happen.

You've definately got a massive internal leak somewhere. Is it the front and back going down?

Any LHM spilled underneath?

Looks like the rear anti sink valve is not doing the job its suppose to do
. I suggest to start from there. Image

Just the rear goes down and dry as a bone underneath, nothing to be seen anywhere ... how do i check for flow return rate first before looking at antisink valve itself?

Its probably not the anti sink valve as even if that was not closing it should take minutes or hours to sink.

Could possibly be the doseur, it's worth checking that return line as well.

You can check all of the returns easily at the LHM tank :)

From the doseur there will be two rubber low pressure returns, follow them to the tank, pop them off at the tank end and put the ends in a jar, there should be very very little LHM come out (you might get a dribble as you lower the pipes). Let us know what you find.
