Specialist Insurance

I am finding my "specialist insurance" companies (classics) are not happy about a more modern car and seem to be quoting large figures for the V6.Activa.

This is not unexpected so I am at the moment looking around for companies not confused by this car (one guy told me it did not exist and must be a modified car :) )

With that in mind I was wondering if you guys can offer links/names to the companies you use for these modern cars as my temporary "lay-up" cover expires shortly.
A rough ball park figure on the premium you pay would be great as a guide.

Cheers

Have you tried Adrian Flux? I insure my Activa with them and they are both content and fair of price in my estimation...

1st port of call, they seem so and they were (and so far the only one to call back)....but I would like to check around as they seem to of quoted quite high considering where I live and the locked garage and the value of the car.

.......now, IF it was 3 years older I could HALF what they quoted as it would be a "classic".

well it ranged from £880, 2x £750's, a £475 and finally a £195....... 5k miles, Free Europe/recovery/breakdown/agreed value/windscreen
They classified it as a Classic.....and Added the V6.Activa to the UK Insurance listings as it did not show up as it is an import of a type not sold in the UK and one (an original production one) has never been insured for the last 10 years....so he said.
RH Ltd... ( http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/mod ... rance.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) Specialist and Classics etc....

Guess who I went with :)

So... now it's got it's own insurance, and fingers crossed it's going to pass it's MOT on Friday... does that mean we can hope to see you at the Northern in it Sticky?

Mine is going to be there :) Be nice to have a another V6 Activa next to it! Not sure if Shaun is going in his or not.

I believe you can use it quite legally as long as it's insured on the VIN and still not registered here. That was certainly the case with the Honda. I checked I'd be able to use it here on Greek plates insured (by esure) on the VIN..

Actually, that's a good point, Mike.

I had the XM insured and MOT'd whilst still on it's Malaysian plates as they'd done it by the chassis number. Not sure how the tax works though.

As it's not registered here and hasn't been here for six months I don't believe it needs taxing as it's still a "foreign" car.

But as a UK resident you must register the car straight away, you cannot drive it on foreign plates other than from the port to home and MOT station, otherwise you risk having it seized, the MOT cert will be issued to the chassis number, you must then register it in the UK and await registration before you can legally drive it.

Heads up here, if a number plate isn't standard UK reflective ANPR flags it up and you'll more than likely get stopped,,,

I stand corrected. Thanks for that Richard.

I'd better not admit to how long I rode my 'bike on Greek plates when I brought it home then! I did have a valid Greek residence permit at the time..
