Looking at the tables for AC gas recharge gives so many different quantities for Xantia.
Can anyone confirm me the AC gas quantity for Xantia 1999 2.0 HDI.

I cannot confirm the amount, as there are (as you discovered) several options. However, when DickieG re-gassed Gracie (my 2.0HDi 90HP Xantia) he put 825gm of coolant in (after trying the other options). I hope this helps.

Re: right AC gas quantity for xantia hdi
My chart is ancient and doesn't specifically show the HDi, but the TD is shown as 800-850g refrigerant (8-10g oil). When I had mine done a few weeks ago it took 806g.
Would be surprised if the HDi was massively different as I wouldn't think save for some pipework routing that the system would be hugely different. ...though that's me applying logic to modern cars again which is often a mistake!

When DickieG did Gracie he found a lot of options, going as high as 1300gms.

Re: right AC gas quantity for xantia hdi
As mentioned above I tried higher amounts of gas but they over pressurised the system hence why I ended up with 825gms which did the job.aneesh84 wrote:so how did he know 825 is the best?Hell Razor5543 wrote:When DickieG did Gracie he found a lot of options, going as high as 1300gms.

Re: right AC gas quantity for xantia hdi
Generally you can tell what's going on based on temperature and pressure. That's why I only got 806g into mine, because the system pressure was at that point what it was meant to be so the machine ended the charge phase at that point.
Quite often with older refrigeration kit you came to the table not having the foggiest idea how much a system held to anything nearer than "around 5kg" from eyeballing the system setup, it's all done by Mk 1 eyeball and keeping tabs on the pressure gauges and sight glass while charging it. You're usually looking for the point in an automotive system to stop when you're just seeing a few bubbles in the glass with the system at full chat. At least that's what I've always worked with and I've never had problems and that usually had the pressures right on the nose.
I'm not a fridgie, but a mate of mine is and I've spent many an hour working with him, so absorbed a bit of knowledge and some secondhand bits of equipment over the years.
The system pressures are more important than the exact weight of charge that's gone in.
