Only the Exclusive has it as a matter of course. Some of the VTR + models have it but from experience very few, look for the electronic handbrake to confirm it has the hydro suspension.

If you go for the first generation c5 up to 2007 all estates except lx models have the lowering button .. they are more roomy .. all have hydraulics. .. and i think are a better car overall..

Only exclusives have hydraulics on the newer x7 models so limit the choice largly..

Do not buy a 1.6 hdi 16v unless theres good positive and regular history.. they have a habit of blowing turbos because injector clamps can come loose etc...

2.2 16v hdi engines thirsty for a modern di type engine.. injectors can sieeze in the head if an injector seal is leaking..

2.0 16v engines are good.. different design to the 2.2 16v .. but the longest lived are the early 2.0 8v hdi 110 engines up to 2005 .. 2.0 16v from 2005.

Check for creaking from the rear.. indicating rear arm bearings need replacment.. leaning of rear wheels may be present too.. check the heater and air con works as it should.. air con cold.. heater hot on hot. Heater flaps can stick.
General window op check ... all doors open from inside and out etc..

Erm, my 2002 LX estate has the lowering button in the boot, was it an optional extra?

I took a guess that LX didnt have it.. but could well of been a standard thing on first gen c5.

My series 1 C5 has hydractive suspension also. I think on S1's it was an option on any model? And H3+ was a further option or standard on exclusives?

No idea about the X7's.

I think it's only on the latest version where they try to dissuade people from buying a hydraulic car by making it only available if you buy the most expensive spec (no option on the others).

I notice they've also dropped all petrol engines on the C5 now...

Rear end lowering standard on all estates on s1 c5s... c5 x7 ONLY the exclusives have hydraulics. . All other c5 are springs.. go for series one c5 or series one face lift 2005 to early 2008 only..

Mk1 C5 Estate ?, I would say most of those are getting very long in the tooth now, good ones are/will be rare soon.

Autos are very lazy to drive, a good box that likes to have its oil changed as soon as you buy it :)....really budget the cost including the fluid.
You should get 50mpg form the Auto if driven moderately....it drinks if you try and race them. Like ALL devil oil cars they give their best with a good forward thinking driver who has a light foot.

....I like Autos in a C5 even if it slows it down. Use the curse control and then the thing drives itself :). Some boy racers will say its slow....up to them but a Facelift is a slow car but exceptionally comfortable in Exclusive spec.
Leather is good, forget the SatNav built in, its rubbish and a TomTom or such just wipes all over it.

DO NOT TOUCH a 1.6 whatever sized breasts the owner has !
