03 xsara pic 1.8 petrol.

Diagnostic says No. one circuit permanent fault

Squib replacement? should I need a mortgage to put this fault right?
(est around £300)Oh! plus vat

More likely to be wiring gone screwy than the squib itself if my experience with Berlingos and Xantias is anything to go by.

I agree that its unlikely that the airbag unit itself is faulty. Being an 03 model my money would be on the com2000.

Well seeing as how the two garages Diag/MOT are next door to each other and MOT is due next month it's booked in for friday morning....hopefully get both done at the same session......

so squib is not com 2000? two seperate possibles?

The comm 2000 is the "switch unit" located behind the wheel that all the stalks are attached to. They can go faulty, or the ribbon cables break which could be your issue. There's a chap in Bradford who repairs them much, much cheaper than a new unit.

Right, It WAS the comm 2000 unit.......and changed my dash panel bulbs while I had a chance.........lol can see the numbers now!!!

sequence of events.........

MOT failure, because of airbag fault message/light.....£40......auto elecs changed comm 2000..........£282, ....MOT.......retest free.......car WOULD have passed without any work otherwise.............
