Suspension failure max speed 55mph

Post by osx »

Got the dreaded message while on the motorway. Stopped at the next services and tried to change the position of the suspension. Car stuck at lower setting. Disconnected the battery and was able to change settings and suspension back to normal height. Another few miles on the motorway and the same message. Will connect to the Lexia tonight but everything started after having the aircon regased and ECU reset which was done after battery replacement.

had the same message on mine 2 yrs ago coming back from France fully laden, was a bit bumpy to say the least with no or little front suspension

3l of LDS later and normal service resumed, well until it leaked out again, as it turns out through the leaking steering rack pinion.

have a poke around underneath, mine was soaked in oil everywhere and even turned the side sill cover plastic wavey.

may not be same as yours but not too sure which i'd prefer, mechanical leak or electrical gremlins :?

Got a few errors, some old (not worried about) and two new that have to do with front height adjustment.

C1141 front body height sensor fault
U2118 triggering (height adjustment receipt anomaly).

Might give it a try with an LDS top-up but seems sensor related. The thing is that after clearing the errors they did not return but the car now sits with the rear high and front clearly lower like a dragster. Looks exactly like my previous C5 :-D

Sad to hear about it, but this is one of those situation that I'm actually glad to have steel sprung suspension ... not rubbing it in your wound, of course ...

Naahhh. If I had to buy a car with conventional suspension it wouldn't be a Citroen. Sad that we are probably seeing the last of them big and comfy Citroens.

C5 decided to sort out front height when I locked the car so at least I can drive over bumps. Got the front height sensor error again - cleared it again and will wait and see what happens tomorrow.
What part am I looking to replace? Need to sort it out while still under warranty :o

I am sure you have, but check the height correctors are clean and move OK and dog bone.
My one played silly games and then sat down, got up, drove normal blah blah then said 55mph and showed a red light.....Dog bone had rusted thru and distorted, then snapped its own head off. I tack welded the head on till I got a replacement and had to clean the corrector extensively.

Mine recently ended he front sensor and then the link the the arb was twisted so they had to fix that before it would correctly set its height.
From memory I think the sensor was £35 or so ex vat. But I cannot check as staying with in laws. (New baby)

Some cars have one each side, some make do with a single one seemingly. All are just under £40 each. if you post the VIN I can get the part number. Worth a look at the correctors though, as David had trouble with his C6, and that just needed a new bracket (£4!).

Had a look underneath and it seems that I have a good LDS leak. No wonder the pump can't pump anything. Not sure how it happened. Ordered 1L to topup so it gets me to the garage.

Yours has a single sensor: 5273 J4

LDS leak, probably a front strut. It's Ok, they've come down a bit, they're only £235 each now. Plus fitting

Not from the strut from what I can see. Leak seems to be from quite low.
