C5 hdi Power Steering and Suspension pumps

Post by ken.chapman »

Does anyone know where the Power Steering Pump and the Suspension pumps are on my C5 with last 8 on the VIN 54028743?

There is a pump under the reservoir - is this suspension or Power Steering?

Still having problems which no garage can sort - the suspension is hard and the steering heavy and notchy with no centre action as I drive. I was told a steering column (at £400!!) which was not the case and can only now assume the rack needs changing - can anyone recommend where to get a reconditioned one?

Thanks to everyone for the information regarding spheres - is there a way to test before replacing?

Lexia is completely free of faults.

Suspension pump should be under the fluid reservoir which sits on the offside inner wing (ish)

It should be somewhere behind the front right wheel arch cover

Suspension pump under the tank; PAS pump under the RH wing as said. Hope you don't need either of them....

Try lubricating the steering UJ.
Awkward to get at but white spray grease with a long 'straw' can be helpful.

does the car rise and fall on operating the manual height switch in the car???

if it does then the hard suspension could be down to flat suspension spheres, if it does not then i believe the suspension pump can be removed, striped, cleaned and re/assembled,
i have not done this personally, but have been told it works,

i think the main fault is dirty/sticking motor brush's/ brush gear

Power steering pump is next to the hydraulic pump & reservoir, to it's right as you look at the engine from the front (2.0, 2.2)? It's easy to get at. I've just been to a local breakers and they've got several in that seem to fit the bill, about £20-£30 normally. Sounds strange that they're both playing up at the same time. Fluid's common to both though.
