are you sure its 10/40 mineral Simon????
10/40 is usually semi synthetic,

if it is mineral check if its specific for petrol of diesel engines

I would be uneasy using that in a diesel. They produce a lot more carbon internally than a petrol engine, hence the oil usually has more detergents in to help keep the engine clean. That's why the oil almost immediately goes black after an oil change, whereas in a petrol engine it can still be a healthy golden brown after six months when it's due a change.

Have always been taught that any turbocharged engine should always be fed a diet of good quality synthetic oil too, so that's what my 1.9TD runs. Main reason for this being the high temperatures encountered in the turbocharger bearings which can cause mineral oils to break down.

I'd have that off you if you were closer though as it would do fine for my Skoda which will be happy with anything that looks vaguely like oil...

I've used diesel oils in a petrol before to help clean out a previously poorly maintained engine, but would never do the same in reverse.

These are just my views. If folks with far more experience come along and say it's okay I am happy to bow to them. The XUD is a tough old engine after all, and may well be far less picky than the more modern units. I prefer to play it safe though.

the B2 indicates its diesel as well?

but the API is rated at SL (but not CF as well)

S being petrol and C being diesel?

lol - ECP (yes I know) have some 15x40 shell helix (ACEA A3/B3) diesel for £16 for 5 litres

10/40 semi synthetic is all you need, and i think Asda is usually quite reasonably priced

I'v e used Tesco 10-40 mineral diesel oil in mine for years, probably ever since it camel out of warranty and I started servicing it myself. No excessive oil consumption (max 1/2 litre between services) no troubles. I change oil and filter every 6k miles. It comes in a black 4l container. (Years back it was 5l so I always had a bit left over, now its 4 you sometimes need a bit more for the mid term top up)

its blue not black bottles - they are going to exchange it for me anyway (at current price) - so its£10 towards something suitable
