Engine Pictures

Post by oscarloco »

Hi Guys, nice to be back. I am restoring my ZX but engine won't start and I want to make sure that the spark plugs are connected in the right order (I suspect somebody might have tampered with them).

Does somebody have pictures or diagrams of how spark plug cables go into the coil? I have spark, there is fuel pressure but the engine won't fire, not even tries to run.

Thanks!

Firing order is normally 1-3-4-2, and 1 is usually at the flywheel end. So get it up to compression on No1 cylinder, then pop the top off the distributor, and check which post the rotor arm is pointing at, and fit the plug lead for No1 to that post, then work round the lid in the firing order, and it should be right. Not unknown for people to remove the rotor arm to prevent theft, and then forgetting to refit it...

Thanks. Any chance you got the pictures? You know, for a less hassle approach? :)

Is it not on a coil pack rather than a dizzy rich?

Most coil packs have 1 and 4 on one side and 3 4 on the other. Are all your leads the same length then?

Try:

The side with the multiplug as 1 and 4, then 2 goes next to 1 and 3 in the gap

Thanks! Will check if it is that way. I suspect foul play as I had to fire one of my mechanics (I am in charge of my company's machines so I have 2 mechanics) and he was trying to get me to sell the car to him. He was really angry because I fired him (I had to, I discovered he was lazy as hell and was always getting in trouble with other people).

Anyway, thanks guys, you have been very helpful

Purely, in jest, at a firm I worked for in the early 70's it was almost the norm for a rookie driver to be given this kind of test..........two leads swapped.........

That's strange? it was alright last night when I parked up!!
