Mk1 and Mk2 Xantia ignition switches.

Unread post by aerodynamica »

Hi all, I have a question about the interchangeability of xantia ignition switches.

It's an early Mk1 'sinker' Xantia with faulty ignition switch, I sourced a replacement switch from KennyW that looked the same but when I'd compared it to the original it was different as can be seen here

The fitment to the lock barrel is totally different. I think the early type was only used for the first year or so of production.

I was thinking that replacing the whole switch and barrel assembly together might work and a Mk2 one is available. It would physically connect to the plugs but I wonder if anyone knows if the actual barrel itself will fit ok in the steering column tube.

That's the only thing that I think might prevent it?

I would like to bump this for interest.

I took apart my mk1 ignition which looks like your black one, in putting it back together it broke and no longer works. Curious about your question here if anyone has any experience taking the ignition apart

Nearly a decade ago! I can't recall what I did. I think I fitted the later ignition switch and barrel and used a different key for the doors but I may have mis remembered.

I think this was my 1993 1.9 TD SX

Graeme,

I forgot I gave you that switch. I did take on apart but I also can't remember much about the inside.

Hi Kenny, I think I took the old one apart. Could see the bad contacts.

The more I recall this the more I think I did simply fit the later type of barrel and switch in and just use the remote for the doors. I think it was a straight swap. The switch was different but the wiring multiplugs were the same. I changed the door lock barrels too
