Xantia Gas Tailgate Strut

Post by flygirl757 »

YOOHOO - me AGAIN. Xantia 1.9TD - 1994. Paul very kindly sent us a tail gate gas strut which holds the boot open and means we don't need a brain operation when the boot slams shut on us.
Heavens - they are heavy - the tailgate, that is - lol.

Can one of the gurus tell us how to get the old ones off and the new ones on? Do they just prise off or do we have to fiddle with that little spring clip which seems to keep them secure. Any help gratefully accepted.

Michelle,

Yes, just lever out the spring clip carefully with a small flat screwdriver. Once the clip is off, the strut will just lift off the ball joint - if you support the weight of the tailgate of course! Clean and grease the ball before refitting.... The spring clip then just pushes back on - but you might need to lever one edge out to get it going.

as Richard says, but have a hand over the clip as you prise it off, as they can go twang, then it wont just be a brain operation required but new :eye: :eye: as well,

i have just last week swapped a tailgate on my daughters Synergie and those clips are pretty tough, more so to get back on than off though

Thanks ever so much for the quick replies. My bf now has his Easter job - lol. I'll get him a crash helmet, Malcolm. What I want to know is just how do you guys know all this stuff - lol.
LOVE the graphics and the word 'twang', Malcolm. I'll let you know how I (he) gets on.

Heavens - that was a quick job. Took all of 10 minutes and NO blood or brain cells littering the place. Good to know there are still plenty of spares to go at, Paul - lol
