Xantia Comfort Spheres

Post by tim leech »

Anyone running some?, going to change the ones on Auto as they are tired and I want as smooth a ride as possible!

A few of the BX guys have them and rave about them.

Never tried them myself, but from what i read they bring the BX levels of boatiness to the xantia. Probably only worth it on a non hydractive.

Hi

Same question here. Just bought a nonhydractive xantia HDI diesel with flat spheres and I would like to order new spheres. Are those comfort spheres still available. I can not find them on aepdirect.com.

They didn't make any 90bhp Xantia with Hydractive suspension, so yours won't have it. I'd simply give the height correctors and arms a proper clean, and fit standard spheres. The ride in the last Xantia thus equipped I went in a couple of months ago was absolutely excellent.

Does it have a button in front of the height lever?

I always used comfort spheres on my XMs. If you want a really soft ride fit a set of accumulator spheres.

Tim,
It's a bit late if you've placed your order, but I was going to say...I had great results by fitting the spheres that were intended for an early 1.6i or 1.9d Xantia (70bar front and 40bar rear) to a 2.0i auto (same as your recent acquisition) which should have had 55 bar front and 30bar rears. The car floated beautifully, absorbed all the bumps, all perfectly controlled, amazing comfort, the car was never going to be raced or anything, so the extra bit of roll didn't matter.
I just had a look at The Sphere Shop website and they list the early 70 & 40 bar spheres, but interesting they don't show the pressures of the comfort spheres.
Let us all know your thoughts once fitted, I'm keen to see how the comfort spheres behave.

Likewise very interested to hear how this goes. Comfort is my main target with Gabriel, and I know the rear spheres are past it. Fronts are okay but bought used so an unknown quantity.

Full comfort set may be on the cards in a couple of months...

From another forum:Well, after much pondering I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a set of "comfort spheres" for my Xantia SX. The purchase was made from Citropart in Germany, with the price per sphere being 34 Euro. The total cost for four spheres plus postage was 186 Euro

These spheres are made by I.F.H.S. of Belgium, are TuV-approved, and have a two year warranty. Nominal sphere pressures are higher than that of standard spheres - 70 BAR for the front, and 40 BAR for the rear. In turn, the sphere orifices appear larger than that of standard spheres - to allow softer damping to occur.

First impressions are a slightly softer, more floating ride, with little apparent impact on steering or handling sharpness. I think it may prove to be an agreeable option for those who regard the non-hydractive SX as having too firm a ride for a car with hydropneumatic suspension.

So it seems that the pressures of comfort spheres are the same as early 1,6 and 1.9d. I am going to choose between 70/40 comfort vs 70/40 standard. Pretty sure I am not going to buy 55/30. Waiting for the feedback from tim leech.
