hi to all
I have just got myself an xantia zx 1.8 8 valve p reg.
i have a few probs with it can you help.
first prob is the ide, it ranges from 1500 to 2500 revs. there is no fault codes in system and no air leak that i or the garage could find.
second is the brakes, when you brake farly hard the pressure goes away but if you put your foot on the pedal a bit more the pressure comes back.
the third prob is that there is no air bag lit, it has had the dash bulbs replaced and i have checked all the fuses.
could this be a simple dash buld or is there anything i should look at first.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP IN ADVANCE[:)]

Hi edd
My best bet on your idle problems is the throttle potientiometer - a common symptom is exactly unstable high idle - or engine "having it's own life".
Use the home button and search on-line shop for stock no & cost.
The brake problem I don't recognise - do you in fact have missing brakes (very dangerous !) [?]
- or is it the feel on the pedal [?]
Either the problem you MUST assure the brakes are working - or your Xantia should instantly be grounded. You (or other trafficants) can not live with your Xantia stopping 20m later than you anticipated !
The Xantia brake pedal has a build in spring between pedal and valve - to give it a pedal feeling like a "normal" car. Earlier hydraulic Citroen models had no spring - giving a hyper-sensitive brake pedal - a peculiarity disliked by most NON-Citroen drivers.
Not sure about the airbag light. AFAIK the light should come on first off with key turned - like the ABS light - then extinguish if everything is normal. Abnormalities is signalled by the lamp lit during engine run.

hi andersdk
thanks for the advise.
the brakes do work but when braking sometimes the pressuer goes away, i just have to push on pedal a bit more and they come back instantly.
with the airbag i have no light at all, you said about the abs light, should mine have it as i have no light for that as well so i thought it was not fitted.

Ok Edd -
Then I suspect the mentioned spring pedal/valve.
Your P-reg would be a '97 modelyear ?
I don't think that UK model Xantia's were sold without ABS.
Only the very first models may have been delivered w/o ABS.
There is a chance that fuses may have been removed to "solve" (hide !) an ABS problem.
This would be fuse F6 (red 10Amp) in facia fusebox - and fuse F1 (yellow 20Amp) in engine bay fusebox.
I don't have a clue on the airbag light I'm afraid.

Sounds like the panel light has blown. On mine it's the lamp nearest the 5,500rpm point on the tacho! Could be there is an air bag fault and the lamp has been on for a long time .... and blown.
Air bag faults are usually either the rotary connector on the steering wheel going open circuit or the seat belt pretensioner connectors under the drivers and passenger seats needing a blast of switch-cleaner. Anything else needs specialist attention. And of course, follow the safety instructions in Haynes before touching any part of these systems.
