Xantia bonnet lift

Unread post by harryp »

I notice that the Peugeot 406 HDI "Exclusive equivalent" has a lifting ram for the bonnet similar to the Xantia boot lift.
Have any of the Forum Members fitted something similar to the Xantia. It would be a nice touch IMHO, and well worthy of the car.

Had thought about it myself because my old XM had them on the bonnet. Presumably deleted from the Xantia for cost reasons :(

You may find this website, mentioned before on the forum, useful for gas struts http://www.cargasstruts.co.uk/

If its any help: All 406's except the very early ones (N plate) had gas struts for the bonnet instead of a conventional metal stay. The bonnet is surprisingly heavy to open on the early models with conventional stay.

Thanks for replies and info. Was hoping to find info on mounting points etc, guess a trip to scrapyard is required for that then  Will give it a go later - and if successful will post back; it may be some time!!

To be fair (as few 406's had a convention bonnet stay) I seem to recall the "problem" was lifting the heavy thing heigh enough to get the stay to go in, if that makes sense...

I was thinking about this earlier (sad I know) but for Peugeot models:

106: All new shape had struts. Question: Did any Saxo's have struts ?
206: None of them did
306: All new shape had struts

saxo's didn't have struts, not even the VTS. The 206 bonnet would bent at the sight of stuts, it feels flimsier than the wings :rofl2:

It is something I have considered. Remember noting how nice a touch it was on my 306.

Handy in that the gas struts are a long way back so really don't get in the way as the bonnet stay can (especially when working in the dark when it turns invisible and aims for foreheads and exposed ears).

Do wonder if it would be viable to retrofit with relative ease...
