CX25 GTI AUTO

Post by johnmowcop »

Hello.

This is my first post here so a good hello to you all.

I have a 1988 CX 25 GTI Auto.

I need an ignition coil. The garage asked me to source one they say it is the wasted spark type.

I do not know the model of coil or what to buy could anyone help please. They told me it had three terminals I have found one on car parts but not sure if it is the correct one.

All help appreciated.

Does it look like a traditional coil John or is it more of a stubby square thing?

Hello

Thanks for your reply. No not quite, it has three high tension outlets, if you have a Haynes manual and look on page 238 it is the coil that has three outlets, the other coil has one outlet.

NOt sure were I will get onje from I have tried a few places without luck so far. A second hand one would do if anyone is breaking a 25 gti.

how does a three outlet coil work on a 4 cylinder engine???

can you add a picy of the one from your car????

i cant say i have every seen a CX GTI with a three outlet ignition coil before,

i have seen them with the type in my ebay listing, and i have seen the twin tow outlet/port version,

my old H reg 2.5 TRI safari had the type in my listing

Hello Malcolm

I can't photograph the engine bay, the car is at the garage having this and other work done. I have scanned the page from Haynes that has a sketch of the coils and leads arrangement, this gives a vague impression of the arrangement, but I do not know how to embed or attach the scanned image to my post on the forum. Is there a way I could email the image. As I understand it form the mechanic who is working on my car it is same as the single square type coil (not the bottle type) but with three lead connections instead of the one. So far I have only seen the single connection type on the internet. On Monday I will ask the mechanic to photograph the coil and then I can try to circulate the image.

if you have a

https://www.dropbox.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

account you can copy and paste the image location link quite easy,

if not i can pm you my email address

i suspect the coil your after is one of a pair of two HT lead outputs/ports and the third port is the low tension socket

Hello Malcolm

Just set up dropbox, first time I have used it so lets hope it works. Below should be a link to the excerpt from Haynes. The coil I am after, so I understand, is the one shown with three leads going to it.

aaah
so although the front most coil looks like it has three HT lead attached to it, in fact it does not ( i will await to be proved wrong ) , as this drawing shows two twin port coils,

it appears to me its just badly drawn

All those who are chipping to try and help, I thank you.

Malcolm, I am pleased that you see where I am coming from now. The coil you have found is probably the configuration I am after.

Demag. Yes please if you could give me a lead somewhere I would appreciate it. I have spent ages trying to find one on the internet but I only seem to come up with single outlet ones.
