The CD player in my C5 sometimes doesn't read CD's. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it just won't play.
I can't be bothered with upgrading the stereo in this to an aftermarket one, so while I was in the scrapyard last weekend I grabbed a couple of head units from other S1's that looked exactly the same. There was a slight difference in the model numbers (last couple of digits) but aside from that all the same.
I tried them both out and both worked fine, BUT there was a constant annoying very loud beep every couple of seconds.
I'm assuming this was the head unit complaining that it wasn't connected to the right car (or vice versa)?
Anyone know about this / how to sort it?
Also, were there any s1's fitted with an aux socket?
Or s2's? Can the headunits from them be swapped in the same way?

The head unit is matched to the car's VIN. Someone with a Lexia can do this for you. Until then you are stuck with the beeping.
Re: C5 S1 radio change - do they need recoding?
You will need a session on a alexia machine, in the radio section, you change the vin number of the set, to match the car.
This will stop the bleep, takes a few mins once you know how.

Cool, thanks - I've stuck with the existing radio for the moment.
I will need to get a Lexia so I can switch on cruise control etc. and have a play with some stuff on my grumpy activa - just another thing on the list then

Re: C5 S1 radio change - do they need recoding?
If you don't recode it will work but bleep at you every few seconds. I have replaced several Citroen/Peugeot CD radios because the CD wouldn't play and found that the replacements were little better. I have now fitted an after market radio, a very nice Pioneer with a USB input on the front for less than £50.00 easy to fit and no recoding needed.

Re: C5 S1 radio change - do they need recoding?
Thanks, I've done that on my Xantia and all my other cars.
The C5 is more of just a 'daily workhorse' and I want to keep the steering controls and main display and can't be arsed with the extra expense of a convertor unit (I have done that on my Xantia for the remote steering controls).
Clarion stuff is actually pretty good anyway, so I don't mind keeping it.
A replacement oem stereo from the breakers will probably only be a fiver anyway, so I don't mind giving it a go and seeing how it lasts.
Were there any s2's that had aux inputs though, does anyone know???

There's always the option of just swapping the CD mechanisms.

Having owned a mk 1 and a mk 2 I think the radios aer not compatible. The mk 2 trip computer is worked through the radio and I think it is totally different to the mk 1.

True... I hadn't really thought that far. I'm back at the breakers this weekend I think, so I'll have a look then and see what I think.dnsey wrote:There's always the option of just swapping the CD mechanisms.

I tried that with mine - still didn't work.
