Waste Oil Burner

Unread post by xsaras4ever »

Hello again to you all from Bretagne.

Have any of you built a Waste Oil Burner (ie: Engine oil) to heat your workshops ?

We are going to do one over the coming months and have a plan of sorts. Anyone out there interested ?

Plenty of stuff on the net on them. Brilliant things by the looks of it. I built a log burner last winter for the garage.
It took a little time sourcing and making it properly. Works great and kept me going in cold that would not have been possible before.

All in it cost me £26

Yep , we have a logburner and a bit of forest.

But a waste oil burner would do 3 jobs - heat the workshop - save us the work with the logs - use up the oil.

We are going to build the Rogers Sanders burner over the next few months.

My mate has one in his workshop (bought it, not homemade). Not really that great a heat output in my opinion & he needs to clean it out every other day (well his apprentice does) which is quite time consuming.

We had one in the workshop back in the sixties, driven by compressed air. It was pretty good for heating a big space but the oil had to be free from any water or it went out when a water droplet came through and then re-started with a huge bang and filled the place with soot.

I laughed at the suggestion in the link that the soot was just carbon that dropped to the ground, I think that's what the environmentalists call particulates that cause cancer, asthma and the like.

Burn Waste Oil ?......in a "open flame" drip tray......

I can think of lots of reasons that is bad for everybody.

USE WOOD for gods sake, have you no consideration for my planet ?
