Xantia mudflaps
I all has anyone fitted rear wheel mudflaps to a Xantia estate, as the tailgate and rear window on my newly acquired white 2.0hdi does about a mile in the rain and its filthy, thanks for any answers.
Re: Xantia mudflaps
It's not the mudflaps that make a difference Bill, it's the aerodynamics of estate cars. The filth is "sucked" onto the rear window by the low - pressure "slipstream" area created behind an estate car and the first thing it sticks to is the rear window. Get a good wiper blade and make sure the washers work!

I (and I imagine others) have the same problem all the time. The Berlingo rear window is dirty in about 30 ft!

Re: Xantia mudflaps
Maybe this would help, it is still listed by them. Boot lips can help or make it worse....or just get a good wiper blade

That low pressure "slipstream" is the 'hole' that racing drivers use to get a 'tow' from the car in front.The_Hairdresser wrote:It's not the mudflaps that make a difference Bill, it's the aerodynamics of estate cars. This is going to go wildly off-topic isn't it if we aren't careful.
Sorry Bill. It's the way it often is here....

Strange innit, in all the years I've been driving and all the variations,in weather(UK) I've never had a car that filthies up, so that the rear is absolutely covered.....

Re: Xantia mudflaps
The estate I have just acquired has flaps but not a rear wiper, could see nothing out of the back window for about 68 of the 70 miles home.

Re: Xantia mudflaps
I can sympathise Rory as I do have a rear wiper and it has to work overtime to try and clear farm mud, cows crap and sheep crap off the rear window, its pretty rural where I live, don't know what the answer is.

Re: Xantia mudflaps
It's got a working wiper now, so I guess the answer is a full washer bottle. Whether rain x or the like would make a difference I don't know.

Re: Xantia mudflaps
Rain-X works great when there is lots of water, but damp dirty spray, no difference.
I find the high grit content on rear screens removes the Rain-X from the wiped area after the first wipe or two anyway so only bother applying it in the summer.
