C5 Exclusive, Central console keeps restarting itself and...

Post by Fedupofc5 »

Dear All,
I almost losing patience with my C5. Its a 2008 C5 exclusive, diesel auto. Ive had the usual faults last year such as leaking suspension and leaking power steering pipe. Changed them all did an MOT and now far the past few months i've been getting the 'parking brake faulty', 'gearbox faulty' messages and car going into limp mode problems. But then if i switch it off and wait for 5 minutes and restart it, it will be fine and run for a couple of weeks, but will happen again. Could you please tell me if this is related to the faulty relay or MAF?
But yesterday my central console navigation unit with the hard disk has got struck and keeps restarting itself. I cannot change anything including radio/screen display or volume etc. I've got the sim card in it but could not even access the telephone since nothing is working including the parking sensors display. The car seems to be running this morning but the audio/navigation unit keeps restarting itself, starts with citroen logo and then gets struck and then restarts again and again. Is there a way to reset the system?

Thanks in advance for your response.

This sounds very indicative of a poor battery- known to cause all sorts of random error codes. These cars are very demanding of the battery, if you're still on the original you're due a new one anyway- I'd replace it and see if that fixes things.

Thanks Jodyone, will check that, don't know if the battery was changed, bought the car with 38k on clock; now on 62k full service history.
Any idea as to when the original battery needs changed?

Just to give an update, i have tried pressing the 'dark' button for ten seconds, but its still the same, no effect.

Im not sure, but 6 years is probably pushing it. Don't forget the Citroen fixed price scheme- I got a battery for my C6 for £110 from the dealer, and it's enormous.. 950Ah if i recall. The C5 requirement might be a bit less, but I doubt by much.

Yep definatly get a good battery. When it starts is it troublesome? Does it take a while? It should be instant.

Hi,
It starts perfect in the mornings, but after that during the day time when it starts the rpm raises relatively slowly. Also for the past few weeks after the first start in the morning, later during the day if i start the car and roll for a while and then stop either to get fuel or go to shops, it stutters when i restart with the 'service' light flashing and i have to turn the key off and leave it in the first turn for a few seconds and start again, after which the 'service' light disappears.

Thanks

Yeah does sound quite inconsistent, id go for a short somewhere maybe. With the battery disconected check the starter motor , you should be able to get to it quite easily, try wobbling the casing around. Mine was all loose and flapping around, basically although working it was self destructing and shorting the engine out causing all sorts of wierd things to happen. Worth a quick check.

Hi Guys,
Yesterday after work when i was driving back home the audio system still kept restarting itself, could not access anything, however when i started the car this morning everything has just started to work and i'm able to access all the menus. My wife is french and i was telling her that may be all things french are like this.;-)
Still don't know what has caused this.

Does the car drop into economy mode soon after switching the engine off, even after relatively long journeys?

I think the X7 is worse for this.
Mine gives me 30 minutes after the engine is stopped, regardless of running time. The estate was 45 mins.
