Baisc question re Shell

Unread post by Stickyfinger »

What is the better shell ....early car or later ?

Pls take into consideration weight, spare parts/costs ect as well as systems, suspension and steering

They're much of a muchness really. I believe there's only minor differences apart from the overall outer appearance.

Cool thanks.....just thinking there may be a little secret however an early car looks nicer (more retro) to me...so that's good , will tell you why later

You can make an S2 look like a S1 and vice-versa if you so wish. I believe it's only the bonnet, slam panel, bumpers, lights that are different and they're all bolt on. I looked into this when my S1 Activa had a frontal impact.

Cheers Trichologist, that opens some options however managed to find the info, s2 is 50kg up on the S1.
That is significant, wonder where it is added.

Rust - wise the S1 is better but note that only S1 shells designed for them will accept the 'big' engines. So the best S1 shell is the Activa, V6 or 2.1TD.

These have fat wings and the right engine mounts... Small engine S1 shells cannot be modified to take a big engine.

The S2 can be made to look like an S1...

All S2 shells are identical..

As you know Jim, it will be an Activa shell.....so good news....I wonder if these cars carry that extra weight of the S2 as well.

Does the S2 have improved crash protection such as side door bars etc Jim?

That will be it then....4 bars and airbags/mounts etc....easy to get that to 50kg....bigger wheels and tyres as well I think on the S2 over the S1
