hdi..starts , runs stitops

hi newbie here

my son has a 2.0 hdi xsara picasso...reg... HN51 HBL....he recently changed the lift pump after the original failed....he switches the ignition on and off 6 times to prime the system...there are no visible fuel leaks and the seal on the fuel filter has been replaced..the car engine starts first time everytime but only runs for 40 seconds ..then dies...any help appreciated...

Many be you are only getting positive feed to the fuel pump for 40 seconds ?
You should check this before going further, should be a simple enough test.

Connect a meter to the lift pump power feeds. Time how long it stays live for. It might only be 40 seconds..
