Removing Old ABS Reluctor Rings
Hi Folks, My Xantia 2.1td needs new reluctor rings due to bad corrosion. I have the symptoms of foot pedal pumping and an ABS warning light on. I had a look at them yesterday and the CV joint casings look quite fragile due to heavy corrosion and the old rings are stuck fast. My thoughts are it may be more practical to change the CV joint as the after market ones are not too expensive. Anybody have any advice or thoughts particularly on how to change the CV joints. Thanks.

The old rings will knock off with a cold chisel with ease.. They are made of brittle material..
Often they fall off of their own accord!
Make a note of their location on the CV joint just before removal and then clean the joint body where the rings sit. Clean carefully and thoroughly.
Bake the new rings in the oven at gas mark 7 for 30 minutes and tap them into place whilst hot.. They will shrink tightly on when cool...

Re: Removing Old ABS Reluctor Rings
Thanks again Jim. Just tried what you said and after a few persuasions the ring came off compete which allowed me to measure the diameter (90mm) Apparently there are 2 sizes so I have ordered the correct ones today. Did you notice I updated my post on my Lucas Epic cam (advance) sensor today. It took me a while to get a pump at a sensible price as I only required the cam sensor to be changed on my pump. The diesel knock has gone with the replacement sensor fitted.

Re: Removing Old ABS Reluctor Rings
As Jim said, bake the rings in the oven to expand them a bit. Also, be careful when fitting the ring on the nearside, as (if you are not careful) the driveshaft may come away from the gearbox, leaking gearbox oil onto your drive. We had this happen when I was at CitroJims replacing both rings. If you do spill oil, you can get more from GSF at about £6.50 (about £2 less than from Citroen), Total BV75W80.
