Wanted Solid Crank Pulley

Unread post by howiedean »

Hello,

I need to replace the crank pulley on my 2001 HDI C5. Does anyone know where I can buy a new solid type?

Regards,
Howie

Don't know if they make one, the XMs had dual mass pullys. Whats the problem then? I have only ever had one go and that was at about 250,000 miles and they are cheap enough to replace.

The pulley also acts as a damper.....there is a reason for its use and going solid could (?) set up increased vibrations/harmonics.
As said, rare to go and a 2nd hand one should be even cheaper

Thanks for that, the reason is I'm only going to keep the car for another year. If I buy a cheap pulley I'd want it to last better than 10,000 miles, there are cheap ones everywhere but which one would you buy?

Howie

Solid crank pulleys were only ever made for some of the early engines, pre 1995, & wont fit your car. If you've still got a dual mass flywheel, it might not be advisable anyway.

Changing them on the later engines is a doddle as you've only got to de-tension the drive belt, undo the three holding bolts & 'Bob's not your Aunt'.

Shop around as they can be got new cheaper than Sticky's suggestion. Secondhand is questionable as these components can fail at both high & low mileages.

If your one isn't squeaking or moving, why mess with it?

I would't be averse to buying one of these:
