Citroen Xantia rear low

Unread post by bill hughes »

Hi all the rear end of my 2.0 hdi estate looks very low, at rest with the engine off the top of the tyre is up inside the wheel arch, where as on my 1.9tdi there is a gap, any ideas why this should be, I've only just bought the hdi so not familiar with it, many thanks for any help.

It sounds like the rear height corrector linkage (white plastic clip) has popped out.
Number 6 in below pic where both front and rear height correctors are seen.

This is particularly important when working on the suspension system hydraulics, the car can drop very suddenly with fatal results.
Edit: there are also some cases where the U-shaped, small piece of iron of the clamp (number 4) was broken.
If the mechanism is not lubricated, it becomes rusty and can get stuck.
That small iron arm is seen better in part number 3.

Many thanks for your replies, I hav'nt noticed it bouncing about, forgot to say it does rise with the engine running and the "stop" light takes about 10 seconds to go out, don't know if that's right as the 1.9 tdi goes out much quicker.I will get it on a ramp and see if anything has popped out or broken.

It is also VERY possible that the unit itself is all gummed up.

If so....wash it out with a light spray oil and a stiff brush, do not jam in a screwdriver and release everything slowly....no need to force it.

Use ramps if you can, look under the rear ...connects the car to the Anti Roll Bar. Do not unbolt anything yet and defo not the roll bar clamp.....just un-clip the dog bone and clean/oil everything. No need to force the sender, just little movements until its free and clean. Normally they survive quite well.

REMEMBER...WHEN YOU GO UNDER A CITROEN, USE BLOCKS OR STANDS.... SHE WILL TRY TO KILL YOU ONE DAY IF YOU DON'T

Question:

Does she come up normally with the engine running and go down gradual like?

If so, could be the anti-sink valve. They do down at the back 1st.
