That will do nicely Sir.........I take it there is no chance of damage to the drive joint/shaft/mount pulling the hub off it....

Should be OK - just take care if it's stuck in the hub not to hit the end without putting the nut back on first - all too easy to mash the thread! As you are working on the NS take care not to pull on the drive shaft as it's relatively easy to pull it out of the gearbox and drop the oil....

:)...if i do I will say I am doing a gearbox oil change :) as for smashing threads....us old car drivers have chrome spinoffs and use Copper and Leather mate, I do not know what a steel hammer is :@)

Thanks for the warning mate....and that link is great

I did it the other day, following that link, and it was straightforward. It's actually a 34mm socket, not that it matters much at that size. I used a small bearing puller like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00K ... ge_o09_s00" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to remove the inner race from the hub spigot,it came off easily.

I have a small puller, a 3 leg which I hope will fit in, if not then the trusty Dremmel and micro disks and a sharp blow should do it.

Read a few of the Pug 407 posts,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,LOL they are not happy with the early design of bearing

FYI there are TWO types of bearing on the market.TAKE CARE you get the NEW type
The problem is water ingress, the later type has a metal surported protection disk and a sealed bearing....the OLD type has either a open bearing and with/without a plastic washer that does not last.

edit
A warning....Go Orginal OEM (watch ebay as a lot sell the old stock) or Febi

The same seems true for the C6 as well btw

edit....some MOT guys are now looking for it across the French lines :)

Got the new parts.....note the new shield washer as well. It will be interesting if these are fitted to mine, more likely not considering the Very Poor Standards at HARTWELLS in ABINGDON Oxon.

FYI, there is plenty of room under the rubber and in the bearing for more grease, should I pack it and what type should I use ?

And this is what I found....no sign of the protective collar, two buggered E Bolt heads (well done HARTWELL Abingdon you really are rubbish) totally rounded to which I welded an old socket and got them off that way. Lucky for me the small center one was ok.
So all back on tomorrow........

That's exactly what I found! Minus the buggered bolts. Nice one, hope it goes back together ok, I used a big hammer and block to seat the new one, though a bottle jack might help.

Did you fit the new protective ring (3623-26) ?

Good tip.....must dig out the bottle jack from the others boot then

Yep, I fitted the new metal ring first. It snugs up tight to the bottom of the spigot when fully home.

It does look like it will solve the problem, just looked thru the paper work, mine were changed at 35K in Slough and at 61K by Hartwells, the 2nd should of used the metal washer as it was available then, but being Hartwells...LOL (discovered a missing bolt on the disk shield as well)

How far did you go in cleaning the spigot, Dremmels at Dawn ! :)

A nasty mess! Thinking about your post above re grease - don't overdo it, as you risk hydraulicing it as you drive it home. God only knows why they use E-spline bolts - they always seem to be a poor fit to me. Did you manage that on the car, or did you take the hub carrier off?

I used a wire brush and a wire brush Dremel attachment to take the rust off, no more. The last thing I wanted to achieve was a sloppy fit there! Then a smear of axle grease and have at it with the lump hammer
