engine knocking 2lt hdi

c5 (2002) hdi it has a bad rattle from the cam belt area i have taken the drive belt off and run the engine and the rattle as gone ,the power steering pump felt rough so i changed it i put the belt back on and the rattle as come back it sounds like its coming from the front pulley the pulley looks ok any ideas welcome thanks .

The pulley is similar to a DMF with a sandwich interior between two steel outer and us breaking down you'll need to replace the pulley with a new one ...Petef

Shine a light on it with the engine running and you may well see its running out of line - its a common fault.

hi took the crank pulley off and it looks and feels ok i took it to the parts shop and he said it looks ok to him the ones he has seen where shot . any way got to start some where so i brought one £45 pounds ,fitted it and its done the job .thank for your input .looking at the old one it looks perfect .
