Eco Mode problem 2004 Xsara 2.0Hdi estate

Post by Roen »

I had a knock on the front recently damaging the headlight and rad. I attempted to get the car to a safer place but In the process the auxiliary belt broke and it went into eco mode and shut everything down.
I have replaced the belt now and tried to start the engine. It turns over fine and no unexpected sounds or issues but it remains in Eco Mode!!
Will check later today if the alternator is putting power back to the battery but short on ideas what to check next.
Any suggestions very welcome

HI Roen - welcome along!

Sorry to hear of your woes.... :cry: Eco mode will not stop it starting. It might have an inertia switch which has been tripped (usually at the back of the engine bay somewhere, and often red) - pressing this to re-set might be enough. Otherwise, I would suspect that the broken aux belt has got inside the cam belt covers and caused the cam belt to skip a tooth or two, which as upset the engine management system. You need to get it on a Lexia diagnostic computer to see what is up with it - there may be someone near you who has the kit: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 19&t=29178" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi Richard, thanks for the the info. First thing is to check the inertia switch I guess. Next step if that doesn't help is to find someone with diagnostics here in Central France.

Remembered I had an OBDII plug and Torque on my phone/ Checked for error codes and got P1352, P0341
what I read online:
0341= Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
1352 = Ignition bypass circuit high voltage
Does anyone know what these may really translate into?

Time to check the cam timing I think.... if you could get it on a Lexia you could check to see if it was seeing cam/crank synchronisation on cranking.

There is no inertia switch on later Xsaras with com2000.
It doesn't sound good if the engine cut out when the belt broke, if the aux belt breaks on this engine it should still run until the battery goes flat. Was there belt debris wrapped round the crank pulley ?

No signs of bits of the belt at all, but from Richard's comment that does not mean that some didn't find it's way in to upset the cambelt.
I took off the Cam sensor and cleaned it but no changes
