nemo tick tick

Post by stevemiller »

Had this van a few weeks now
Fixed leaking sump changed oil and filter
Changed gearbox oil
Changed crank pulley believing it was the culprit after
Removing belt and listening
This is a new gates pulley
I have a slow tick tick noise from the off side and I've run out of ideas?
I also have a driveshaft oil leak
Does the driveshaft pull from the box easily
Or is it more involved?
Feeling suicidal

Driveshaft does come out of the box easily, keep,it topped up, these have a habit of running dry.
Don't suppose your ick is an injector leak ?

Does the tick vary with engine speed or road speed? If its slower than engine speed but synchronised with it I would suspect the belt, does it still do it with the belt off?

Thanks for the replies
It makes the noise with the belt off
I only noticed it at idle, but this is probably due to roadworks noise etc
It appears to be coming from under the wheel arch

The only thing that I can think of that will give you a 'tick' slower than engine speed but coupled to it is the cam belt, I would think one tick every 4-6 revolutions of the crankshaft would be about right. If you can get the top part of the cover off you can watch it go round, if you put a white mark on it and the tick is occurring at the same rate as the white mark passes you, that's what it will be.

I have another problem I changed the gearbox oil a few weeks ago and now the driveshaft oil seals leaking
im wondering if the seller put an additive in to stop a leak and the box had previously run low
and damaged itself
I found a dry stain when I refilled
the vans one problem after another and im a bit peeved off lol
I ran the van without a belt and the electric motor sound on decelerating appeared to stop
the pulleys all seemed fine, apart from a bit of ware on the power steering but not enough I felt
I changed it anyway along with the alternator pulley with a new belt
also the crank pulley as initially this is where I thought the noise was coming from
arrhh

I think I understand if the belts snagging somewhere a tippex mark on the belt will highlight this.?

I am dividing the total length of the belt by the length round the crankshaft pulley but I think 2 secs is far to long for it to be the belt rotation. I have no idea what that could be, if it was me I probably wouldn't worry about it unless it got a lot worse.
