Xsara Picasso 2000 thermostat housing leak.

Post by Picasso13 »

Hello to all,

New to these cars and also first time on the site so again hello.
just bought this vehicle on Monday, its a 2.0 SX HDI. Noticed a leak from the thermo housing. Today I removed the housing to check for cracks etc but found none.
When I tightened it back up it still has the leak as if there is a gasket or o-ring missing.
Would the wrong thermostat sealing ring be the cause? ie its not thick enough to create a seal.

It could be. A quick fix would be to put some silicone bathroom sealer on the surface and leave it to dry overnight, you will have a seal as thick/thin as you want it.

hi and welcome

these housing cracking is a common known fault,

maybe the crack only opens up after tightening the housing in place, or the engine heats up,

Thanks for the replies

Seems like the leak has been sealed!
I used a rubber washer from a sink strainer and trimmed it to the size of the thermostat sealing ring,
placed it on top and clamped the housing down onto it and so far so good and with no silicone/gasket paste.
