The company I worked for sold one of the first Morris Minis in Brum, we had a customer running a pre war Morris 8 and he'd heard on the grapevine that the Mini was coming and pre-ordered it, couldn't wait for it to arrive.
It was a real pain, had all the faults that could be imagined firstly the interior got so wet that all the cardboard door cards warped, the first time it rained the ignition got washed out, it was found the the petrol tank breather was hanging in a well in the subframe and sucked all the water into the tank, oil leaks from the transmission rotted the Moulton rubber drive shaft couplings, the fuel pump failed, gearbox synchros failed and on and on.
We found out later that the body design was the reason the interior got wet, the front of the floor was built under the the down panel so the forward motion of the car drove the road water through past the welds and sealant, modified on later models.
Despite all the grief the owner loved it and bought a second one later .

I have a feeling that this may climb out of this thread's theme but I am sure I am not the only one who likes the look of it: :-D

Now here's a car that would seriously tempt me if it was a different colour. Everything else is very appealing and presumably tax and MOT exempt but with only 72000 miles on the clock: :-D

Bought and sold a few of those Mick, they had a reputation for the cross member behind the engine falling out and dropping the engine due to rust in the single skin floor and headlamps losing their silver and costing a bomb to replace.
Welded up and lamps fixed (With Korean copies) they were good cars.

I had a 1600 Beta Spyder which was prone to the same issues although I was lucky enough to avoid them all. IIRC it was principally the Beta models suffering from tin worm which brought about Lancia's abdication from the UK market. However from an engineering point of view I thought they were great cars and this one being the 1300 TC would be a great drive I'm sure without drinking the juice too much!! :-D

If there is ever going to be a chance of getting a cheap mini, this just may be it, because it's not in a car auction. Hidden away within an interiors auction in Frome in Somerset I have come across this little gem and what a colour!!! :-D

That's gorgeous Mick and would make a perfect partner for Bluebell :-D If only... It'll be way out of my league and pocket...

And a Somerset registration too... Perfection 8-) That shade of blue really suits it...
