It has, which is why I only ever use the place near here that two old boys run, they do no repairs, never have. Happy to explain everything in detail, do everything to the letter of the book
which can be, interesting, at times - I took a friend's Passat down a few years ago now. It had no internal door handle working on the passenger front. Door card was loose and the pull cable dangling about.
MOTing it was a way of finding out how shagged-out it really was, so I hadn't fixed anything on it as it was battered to say the least. When I was in the car park, the old boy walks past and says "That mess of a passenger door will be a fail. Take the door card off and put it in the boot now please".

It passed. It was a rattly old tub, but nothing really amiss with it. I questioned him about the door. Having me remove the door card left the cable accessible and it was pretty easy to open by hand, so, by the letter of the book, it opened from inside, so it passed. He did advise, tersely to get it fixed asap.

I used the same MOT place in the UK since I was 18 and got to know the owner. He knew I did all my own repairs. My BX looked like a bag of nails but was mechanically sound from a safety aspect. He always let his newest tester do the MOT. We'd have a coffee and watch. The poor lads used to take twice the normal time to test it because they couldn't believe it could possibly pass. I did ask him on 2 occasions prior to the test about a couples of possible fails. The battery was held in place with a bungee. He said the book states it has to safe and secure, it doesn't state in has to be held in place using the manufacturers methods. The second was the stop solenoid had packed up so I stalled it in 5th. He said the book states the engine needs to be able to stopped while the driver is in the drivers seat, again fine.

Notice the BX is still top the list but sadly gone

Just having a look at Glenmarch see the results of Saturday's sale, not there yet although the WB and Sons website has annotated the catalogue with "Sold" on items where appropriate but no hammer or negotiated price as of now.

Next set of results for Spicer's auction at Goole turned up this handsome beast, hammer price £5,100.

Here's an opportunity to get a very comfy car for a good price I suspect. I can't remember the last time I saw one but I can remember hiring one back in the day and it was very nice indeed!! :-D

Some nice motors there alright. Specially the Audi 80 turbo, the Quattro coupe, the Sprite, the Honda S2000

And then you have the Volvo 440 with a 5000-7000 estimate :rofl2:

The Morris Minor pickup is interesting too. I know they got a 'Ute' version down under, but given that they call this one a Traveller I'm guessing someone just chopped the back off a Woody

A large hunk of Japanese Luxury just over 20 years after coming out of the factory, gets ignominiously pushed through the auction hall after the hammer comes down at £200. The Honda Legend waves farewell..., maybe not as big a legend as it thought it was!

3 grand hammer price for the SIMCA

None of them seem to have any fuel in the tank. #-o

As a seller, surely you're not doing your own sale any good by having your car conk out in the hall?

Penny-wise, pound-foolish my Grandad used to say.

Where does the auctioneer get his patter? "Are you out Graham? About time you came out..." :rofl2:
