Mathwesons have another auction 22nd August. Good thing about Mathewsons they update their catalogue with new entries throughout the period to the next sale. So plenty to view already.
So yes this is the French Car forum, and some have a penchant for the old Xantia. Don't often come up at auctions. I suspect this one has been up fairly recently but I may be wrong...just top of the head (Edit sold for £1950 at the February Auction). So unfortunately last time a Xantia came up, and was posted on this very thread by yours truly, absolutely zero response. Anyway that was still pictures, perhaps videos stir the green blood.

I understand that the red one from Mathewsons new owner is delighted

Yesterday on my bike ride I spotted three 1970s or 80s Rolls Royces in various states of disrepair on the driveway of a fairly ordinary three-bed semi! I guess a serial collector/restorer...
Just opposite on another driveway is a very dilapidated TR7 which hopefully is being restored... Amazing what you see when you keep your eyes open...
Next time I ride through the area I'll get some pictures...

..and plenty of Bentleys and Rolls Royces under £10,000 and a couple of years ago I came across a Bentley/Rolls scrapyard somewhere near Sherburn-in-elmet in Yorkshire.
So one quite like the one recently reported remained unsold at Mathewsons with a guide price of £7,000 to £8,000
Well, much as I like the idea (on someone else's wallet, of course) of the Bentleys, for sheer tastelessness that red dash and carpet takes some beating. Matched - how could they let it pass like that? - by the rusty sill end!
It's a esentially a lovely thing, but many of the dash and centre console switches just look like the blingy bits from a '50s parts bin. Cheap, nasty, ostentatious, spivvy even. Some lessons to be learned from Bristol, Jaguar or Rover, I think, or even some marine craft.
This low mileage 405 was left over after Mathewson's last auction and remains available. It will be offered in the next sale October 3rd unless snapped up by an FCF pug man!! https://mathewsons.co.uk/auctions/aucti ... ecutive-dt
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
That's a 406 Mick but very sweet and worth a second look for anyone after a nice future classic Having owned both, in my humble the 405 was a far superior car...
A 405 was one car I considered as a potential project car for me but something else came along

Well if you are marginally interested in rallying and you happen to be in the vicinity of Pickering you may be interested in this. Estimate of £16K so a bit off topic
I remember watching Tony Pond get over amourous with a tree in a TR7 just like that at Chatsworth Stage on the RAC rally in the eighties. Scintillating stuff

Make that a 740 GLE ? Took a punt and checked your familiar auction site where I found Mrs Joan Smith!!!!
I think that's called intuitive research!!
September Classic Car Sale
Well Mrs Joan Smiths car sold for £3,740 at Matthewsons, and has been put into the September Classic Car Auctions Sale, Leamington Spa, 18 - 19 September, 2020.
Same details, new pool of buyers will it turn a profit? Probably not.
